West Coast to West Coast: Jenni Kayne in Naples

I spent a sunny afternoon live sketching at a Jenni Kayne event in Naples, Florida — a California-born brand meeting the west coast of Florida at Waterside Shops, just as snowbird season begins.

Throughout the day, I sketched guests as they stopped in to shop and settle into Jenni Kayne’s signature relaxed aesthetic — effortless knits, soft neutrals, and, unexpectedly, a steady stream of King Charles Spaniels (clearly the unplanned stars of the afternoon).

One of the pieces I shared was inspired by a recent Chanel show opening staged in a New York City subway. The sketch nods to model Bhavitha Mandava, who was discovered there by Matthieu Blazy and later went on to open a Chanel Métiers d’Art show in New York — a quiet, full-circle fashion moment. The sweater in the illustration mirrored the Jenni Kayne knit I wore that day, an unintentional detail that tied the moment together.

The afternoon also marked the debut of my family’s annual illustrated Christmas card, a tradition I look forward to sharing each year. Personal, seasonal, and perfectly timed for the start of winter in Naples.

A relaxed, sun-filled start to snowbird season — and a beautiful way to sketch into the holidays.
